O-Week Advisors

Orientation Week (O-Week) Advisors are competitively selected sophomores, juniors and seniors who volunteer to return to Rice 10 days prior to the start of classes to assist new students with their academic, cultural, and social transition to Rice. They are trained extensively by a number of collaborative offices across campus, including, but not limited to, First Year Programs, Student Wellbeing, Multicultural Affairs, and the Office of Academic Advising (OAA). Two or three O-Week Advisors are responsible for 8-10 new students in each O-Week group, with each residential college having about 12 O-Week groups. O-Week Advisors are committed to making the transition to Rice as seamless as possible for new students, and the “pay it forward” approach is an absolute staple of Rice’s residential college community.
