Peer Academic Advisors (PAAs) are an integral part of the advising community at Rice, and recently were nationally recognized by the National Academic Advising Association. PAAs are competitively selected and extensively trained by the Office of Academic Advising (OAA). As representatives of the OAA, they serve their respective residential college community by providing peer advice to fellow students about a wide range of academically-related topics. They also support and collaborate with College Magisters, Divisional Advisors, Associates (Faculty & Staff), and O-Week Advisors to provide academic advising. With personal experience as a Rice student and training from the OAA, PAAs offer accurate advice regarding specific courses, co-curricular opportunities, academic rules and procedures, and a wide range of other topics. As fellow students living in the same college, PAAs serve as familiar and approachable contacts who can answer questions and point students in the right direction if they cannot answer a detailed question. With 20-25 PAAs in each college, availability of academic advice and referrals to faculty and professional advisors are greatly enhanced.
Our PAAs are led by our outstanding Student Director of Peer Academic Advising. This year, Suz Wright and Jennifer Kroeger are leading the entire group of PAAs across campus. If you have any questions, they would be happy to help. Feel free to email them at email@example.com.
